Hypnotherapy is a skilled communication aimed at directing a person’s imagination in a way that helps elicit changes in some perceptions, sensations, feelings, thoughts and behaviours. In a typical hypnotherapy session, the hypnotherapist and client will discuss the intended alterations or therapeutic goals desired.

Hypnotherapy is used alongside a person’s own willpower and motivation to seek a desired goal. It is often used to help relieve anxiety, aid sleep, address attitudes to weight, and help clients achieve behavioural change to stop smoking, amongst other things. It may also help with conditions that are exacerbated by stress and confidence issues and may also be used to enhance performance in areas such as sport and public speaking.

If you are still unsure, here are a few facts that will help you understand Hypnosis:

  • Hypnosis is a relaxed focused state of concentration.
  • You will not divulge any information under hypnosis that you wouldn’t normal share; you do not stop reasoning while hypnotised.
  • You are conscious while hypnotised. Hypnosis is not a sleep state.
  • No one ever got ‘stuck’ in hypnosis.
  • Hypnosis is a completely natural state which you will enter into naturally, several times a day without even realising it. (Reading a book, watching a movie etc…)
  • A hypnotist has no control over the person they are hypnotising; the most powerful hypnotist of all is you.
  • All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. A hypnotised is simply a guide, guiding you in and out of this very natural state.
  • There is no such thing as a hypnotised feeling. It is different for everyone.
